Frequently Asked Questions:

Superior Community Preschool

2016-2017

What is SCP?

Superior Community Preschool (at times referred to as 4K) is a free half-day preschool program (either AM or PM) offered to children who are 4 by September 1st and live within the School District of Superior boundaries.

Where is SCP?

We offer SCP at school district sites and community locations :

  • Elementary Schools:

    • Bryant, Cooper, Four Corners, Great Lakes, Northern Lights & Lake Superior.

  • Community Sites:

    • Cathedral School, Family Forum Head Start, Newborn 2 School Education, New Horizons Children’s Center of Superior, Noah’s Ark Daycare, Superior Children’s Center and the YMCA.

What are program lengths at SCP sites?

  • Elementary school sites follow the school district calendar (September - June) with a few additional days off and run a 2 ½ hour SCP class in AM & PM 5 days a week.

  • Four Corners & Lake Superior will either run a full day SCP class 2 days a week OR run a 2 ½ hour SCP class for half day 5 days a week.

  • Community sites run a 3 hour SCP class (September - May).

  • Head Start runs a 4 hour SCP class (September - May); students attending Head Start are dually enrolled in SCP and Head Start (families must meet income-eligibility guidelines).

Can I attend any elementary school I want for SCP?

Home School preference will be given at the school sites for 4K.  We will open up placement at an elementary building that is not your home school May 15th.

For Example:  I live in Bryant school area and I want my student to attend Cooper.  I would enroll at Cooper as my 1st choice.  I would then put Bryant (or a community site) as my 2nd choice.  Beginning June 1st, the director will examine numbers and determine if there is space at Cooper.  If there is space at Cooper, director will then call me and offer Cooper as a placement option.

Is SCP placement on a first-come basis?

Yes, every application is time-stamped and given a number we use in placement.

If you sign up for your home school or a community site location, placement is determined on a first-come basis.  If you sign up for an elementary school site that is not your home school; we will refer to your time-stamped number when offering placement in June to families outside of their home school area.

What if I need transportation?

  • School District Transportation Guidelines:  You must live 2 miles from your home school or in an eligible bus area in order to qualify for transportation.  (Please call Transportation Department if you have questions 715-394-8716).

  • Head Start offers their own transportation

What if I need wrap around care?

  • We have community sites that provide SCP and wrap services.  Cathedral School, Noah’s Ark Daycare, New Horizons Children’s Center, Newborn 2 School Education, Superior Children’s Center and YMCA all offer wrap around services.

  • Before School Latchkey is available at the Elementary School sites prior to the AM session of 4K.  You need to contact the YMCA to register for these services.

  • After School Program is available at the Elementary School sites following the PM session of 4K .  You need to contact the YMCA to register for these services.

How do I register?

  • All registrations will be online.

  • Registration begins with our SCP Enrollment Extravaganza kick-off event.  Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 @ 5:00 - 7:00pm at the Superior Middle School.  Computers will be available.
